about at church? Here are a few "code
words":
Advent - 4
weeks leading up to Christmas when the church waits in eager expectation
for its Savior
Bulletin - program for
worship
GRAPE - Grace, Redeemer,
and Peace Events refers to three Lutheran churches in close
proximity having and event together
LCMS - Lutheran Church -
Missouri Synod is the larger church body (synod) of which Peace
is a part
Lent - 40 days leading up to Easter
when the church sobers at the thought of Jesus' sacrifice; slow music,
no alleluias
Liturgy -
set of songs and spoken paragraphs used in worship
LWML - Lutheran Women's
Missionary League is the Synodical level of WOP; women across
the globe working together
Narthex - gathering area
or lobby in the back of the sanctuary; location for most flyers,
programs (bulletins), posters
Pew - bench where people
sit in church
Sacristy - little room
at the front of the sanctuary where worship items are kept
Sanctuary - room where
worship is held in the main building with large windows and
benches (pews)
VBS - Vacation Bible
School is a week of programming for children during the summer,
usually including crafts, games, music, and lessons about the
Bible
WOP - Women of Peace is
a group all female members of Peace are a part of; they work
together to accomplish mission tasks and enjoy one another's
company; also a vital part of kitchen work and other service
opportunities at church |
